Live-animal and carcass records were linked

The Australian Meat Processor Corporation reported a commercial smallstock traceability project on 1 September 2026. The system connected each animal’s electronic identification, or eID, with an RFID-tracked processing hook and carcass measurements. In its public final report, AMPC gave an average linkage accuracy of 99 percent. The figure describes the tested installation, not every processing line.

The trial ran for ten months

The report says the system consistently reached at least a 98 percent eID read rate during ten months of testing. The project added a replacement eID reader and an alert for reader faults, and integrated hook tracking with the plant reporting system. Individual carcass data came from 15 producer lamb consignments. AMPC identified system integration and operating costs as issues for wider adoption.
