Two ports handling cattle

USDA reopened the Santa Teresa, New Mexico port for Mexican cattle on 24 September 2026, after reopening Douglas, Arizona. Its 16 October Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry Outlook says Santa Teresa processed almost 2,000 head in its first full week, while Douglas handled about 7,500 head in the same week.

Comparison with two years earlier

In the comparable week two years earlier, USDA recorded about 5,400 head at Santa Teresa and 2,800 at Douglas. The October outlook assumes these two ports remain the only permitted Mexican-cattle entry points through 2027; it does not report a reopening date for other ports.
