The weekly Australian processor cow indicator exceeded 400 cents per kilogram liveweight for the first time on record.

Indicator reaches a record
Meat & Livestock Australia reported on 23 October 2026 that its Processor Cow Indicator had passed 400 Australian cents per kilogram liveweight for the first time on record. The indicator covered an offering of 7,166 head. Queensland saleyards averaged 384 cents per kilogram liveweight, while Mortlake and Wodonga in the south averaged 418 cents.
Cattle yardings fall
National cattle yardings for the week fell 7% from the previous week to 54,254 head. MLA linked the tighter offering in Queensland and northern New South Wales to widespread rain and producers retaining stock. These are Australian sale-yard prices for live cattle, not meat export prices or prices in other countries.
