Export forecasts in the October report

The USDA Economic Research Service outlook issued on 16 October 2026 forecasts US pork exports to grow 1.1% in 2026 from 2025 and another 0.6% in 2027 from 2026. The agency linked the slower expected export growth to sluggish growth in Mexican demand for imported US pork. These figures are annual forecast changes, not observed export tonnage or livestock prices.

Production estimates were also cut

After the September Quarterly Hogs and Pigs report, USDA lowered its pork production forecasts by 150 million pounds for 2026 and 245 million pounds for 2027 from the previous outlook. It now projects 27.6 billion pounds in 2026, up 0.2% from 2025, and 27.8 billion pounds in 2027, up 0.7% from 2026.
