Researchers tested two robot-guided cuts on stationary beef sides at a dedicated trial area.

Two cuts tested at Kilcoy
The Australian Meat Processor Corporation reported a robot trial at Kilcoy Global Foods in September 2026. Project 2025-1111 addressed two beef-side operations: removing the chine bone from the chuck and cube-roll area, and extending cuts to make a square-cut cube roll. The team installed a robot, cameras, beef-side supports and prototype cutting tools in a dedicated chilled trial area. Both tasks were tested on stationary sides.
From camera path to boning room
The team adjusted the cutting paths to the size and shape of each side and demonstrated both operations to AMPC and Kilcoy staff. A higher-volume chine-removal trial compared yield with control sides and checked that downstream boning could process the resulting cuts. The public report calls for further production-scale development to test cycle time, reliability, cleaning and tool life; it does not describe a commercial machine already operating across a full line.
