Key points
- Agree the equipment schedule, drawing revisions, check methods and evidence before inspection.
- Record demonstration conditions; a factory check of one machine does not establish complete site performance.
- Keep shipment approval, commissioning actions and final acceptance decisions explicit.
A factory acceptance test (FAT) checks the agreed equipment at the supplier’s facility; site commissioning checks the installed equipment and its site interfaces. Before manufacturing or shipment, define the review methods, operating conditions, responsible reviewers and handling of outstanding items. This checklist helps prepare that discussion for pig, cattle and sheep slaughter equipment.
1. Establish the scope and reference documents
Start with the agreed equipment schedule, specifications and current drawings. Give machines and interfaces consistent references so the inspection sheet, packing records and installation documents can be matched. Identify supplied items and the work assigned to other parties, including civil construction, refrigeration, utility connections and local installation support.
- List the equipment and drawing revisions covered by the review.
- Record the checks required for each item and the evidence to retain.
- Identify the supplier, purchaser and any specialist responsible for each interface.
- Confirm which documents must be available before shipment and at handover.
Use the turnkey project scope guidance to make equipment, site responsibilities and acceptance milestones clear in the proposal and contract.

2. Agree the factory checks and their conditions
The inspection plan depends on the selected equipment and order terms. Relevant checks may cover dimensions, material requirements, welding and surface finish, operating movement, controls, rail connections and cleaning access. Specify any required material certificates, third-party inspections or acceptance records before manufacturing; their availability and scope need confirmation for the order.
- Describe the method, setup and expected result for each agreed check.
- State the utilities, connections and operating conditions needed for a demonstration.
- Identify which complete assemblies or interfaces will be available to inspect.
- Confirm witness arrangements and the agreed format for results, photographs or video records.
Record the conditions actually used. A demonstration of one machine does not establish the operation of every connected system at the customer’s site. Review our equipment inspection and documentation guidance when preparing the document list.
3. Confirm site readiness before commissioning
Site commissioning brings the installed equipment and its project interfaces into the review. Compare the site with the drawings: equipment delivery routes, foundation locations, attachment points, supporting structures, floor elevations and drainage interfaces all need confirmation. Assign the unloading crew, lifting arrangements, electrical connections and on-site coordination before the visit.
Prepare the commissioning sheet using the equipment instructions and applicable site requirements. Identify installation checks, protective measures, emergency controls and permitted movement before operating the equipment. Separately agree the connected-system checks and any production trial, including its conditions, acceptance criteria, operating schedule and responsibilities. Testing should follow the applicable equipment instructions and site procedures.
The installation, commissioning and training guidance provides the related site preparation checklist.
4. Close outstanding items and prepare handover
Keep one record of observations, agreed actions and open items. For each item, identify the affected equipment, responsible party, required evidence and agreed review date. Record whether a further check is needed and how its result will be accepted. Keep shipment approval and final site acceptance decisions explicit in the project records.
At handover, review operating instructions, equipment identification, electrical information, spare part references and the training included in the order. Store commissioning records with the maintenance and equipment register. Warranty and support arrangements follow the agreed contract.

Practical questions
Does a factory demonstration prove complete plant performance?
A demonstration records the equipment and conditions actually checked. Complete plant operation depends on the installed equipment, connected systems and agreed site trial conditions.
Which conditions should be ready before site commissioning?
Confirm the agreed unloading access, foundations, fixing points, rail supports, floor levels, drainage and utilities, together with the personnel and lifting arrangements required by the project.
